Last week saw four DIT students - Liam Stewart, Janina Mocigemba, Chloe Libscombe and Aine Whelan win the local final of this year?s Newstalk Student Enterprise Competition. The students beat off 43 teams to secure the title and Conor Brophy of Newstalk presented the winning team with a cheque for €600. The DIT team will now proceed to the national finals of the competition in the New Year. Here they will compete to win the fantastic overall prize of a trip to the Caribbean on a study visit to Digicel, the telecommunications company established by Irish entrepreneur, Denis O'Brien.

Richard Heywood Jones, DIT Faculty of Business, congratulated the winning team and said: ?The Newstalk Student Enterprise Competition is designed to foster a spirit of enterprise and to maximise the learning experience of participating students. The competition uses a case study format, which allows participants to research real life companies giving students the opportunity to learn about real-life business challenges and solutions.

Since its launch in September 2006 the Student Enterprise competition has generated huge interest amongst both students and lecturers in all of the colleges. Indeed, this year saw over 330 teams from the 16 participating colleges enter the competition.
