Interested in learning more about photography? Always wanted to improve your photography skills?  Want to know the techniques of creating a great photo? If so, DIT is currently offering two great short courses in photography to get you started - Introduction to Photography and Introduction to Digital Imaging with Adobe Photoshop.  Starting mid February, both courses will run every Wednesday evening from 6pm until 9pm for 10 weeks.  Class size is limited to a maximum of 12.  On successful completion of these courses, students will be awarded a DIT Continuing Professional Development Certificate totaling 5 ECTS credits.

Introduction to Photography 

Course Duration: 10 weeks

Venue: DIT School of Photography, Temple Bar, 31 East Essex Street, Dublin 2

Time: Wednesday evenings from 6 - 9 pm

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to still photography, relevant to either film or digital photography.  This programme includes a short module on digital photography, however the emphasis is on traditional silver based photography and there will be a large element of darkroom practice. Students must have access to a manual 35mm SLR camera, (film or digital) which they will be required to bring to all classes.

Topics covered include

  • The operation of the 35mm SLR Camera (film and digital)
  • The production of black and white prints in our fully equipped dark rooms
  • Medium and large format photography
  • Studio lighting techniques
  • Introduction to digital photography and computers

Introduction to Digital Imaging with Adobe Photoshop

Course Duration: 10 weeks

Venue: DIT School of Photography, Temple Bar, 31 East Essex Street , Dublin 2

Time: Wednesday evenings from 6 - 9 pm

Participants in this course will experiment with all of the variables involved in successful digital imaging while learning how to use Adobe Photoshop. Participants will work on Apple Mac computers.

Topics covered include

  • The manipulating of digital images for print, multimedia and web
  • Scanning and digitizing
  • The preparation of a simple web site.
  • Detailed instruction in the use of Photoshop features.
