DIT Breakdance Society today launched another world class break-dance competition to take place this weekend in Gleeson Hall, Kevin Street, Dublin.  The volcanic ash cancelled the competition last year, but according to the student organizers DIT?s Skillmasters break-dance competition is back - bigger and better than ever hopefully. The competition showcases over 60 competitors from all over Ireland, the UK, France, the Netherlands and as far afield as China, Thailand and the USA, with a total audience of 200 expected to attend.  Early bird tickets for the big event are available through www.tickets.ie for a price of 20 euro for adults and 10 euro for children and students. Profits from the competition go to St. Vincent de Paul as the break-dance competition kicks off DIT?s SVP week (6th to 10th December).

With guest judges BBoy Mounir (Vegabonds, France), BBoy Crumbs (Style Elements, USA) and Bboy P (Bad Taste Cru, UK/Ireland) DIT?s Break-dance Skillmasters Competition is a real treat for any dance enthusiast.  Also on hand to judge the locking and popping contests (qualifiers to Euro Battle) are Lipsky and Pouss-One. Music from DJ Timber & Mesia, McTrix & CMX on the mike and an amazing line up of international renowned bboys will make this the biggest break-dance competition yet for DIT.

The action kicks off this Saturday 4th December in Gleeson Hall, Kevin Street, with dance workshops from its international judges and a special DJ workshop with DJ Timber. Sunday 5th of December from 12 noon to 5pm is the big day with 1v1 battles in bboying, locking and popping.

The popularity of break dance and hip hop in Ireland has grown steadily over the last 5 years with an estimated 4,000 dancers involved nationwide.  The DIT Break-dance Society was first set up in 2005 by two DIT students, Dave Reynolds (aka Bboy Big Dave) and Niall Canavan and has grown to a membership of 150 student members this year.
