DIT's Jolene Hoary lifts the Purcell cup

DIT, following a 1-5 to 0-5 point win over Tralee IT, lifted Camogie?s Purcell Cup on Sunday in Cork for the first time.

This, the first ever All-Ireland championship title for DIT Camogie, represents a significant breakthrough for the College and Camogie club.  Heart break two years previous when DIT lost out by a point to Queens in the 2008 final, gave the surviving members a steely resolve not to let this title chance slip.

A goal from Human Nutrition Student Noelle Corrigan inside 30 seconds helped DIT into an early lead. However Tralee soon countered with three frees from Orla Murphy to tie the game level at 1-1 to 0-4 at half-time.

DIT improved and upped the tempo in the second half, and Tralee found it hard to cope. They were limited to one Danielle Sheedy score for the entire second half.

While DIT?s Property Economics student Jane Dolan, later named player of the tournament was dictating all the play from midfield.  Dublin?s Jolene Hoary caused the Tralee defense trouble while nice points from Business student Aisling Brogan and Biomedical student Cathy Bowes sealed victory for the college.

DIT also picked up four College All Stars following the tournament -Karen Mullins (DIT) corner back, Sarah Ryan (DIT) wing back, Aileen O?Loughlin (DIT) Midfield; Jane Dolan (DIT) Midfield.
