Hothouse launches DIT Inventor Competition 2010

Hothouse, the award winning Innovation and Technology Centre at Dublin Institute of Technology, issued a reminder today to all staff and students in DIT to make sure to submit their entries for the 2010 DIT Inventor Competition by the closing date which is 22 October 2010.  The total prize fund for the competition is worth €2500 and each year the number of entries is growing..

The competition is divided into two categories and there is also a Best Overall Invention Award.  The categories and prizes are:

  • Best Staff member, Post Grad and Researcher Invention Award ? sponsored by DIT Hothouse €500
  • Best Undergraduate Student Invention Award ? sponsored by DIT Hothouse €500
  • Best Overall Invention Award sponsored by Hanna, Moore & Curley - €1,500

To be in with a chance to win, simply email a description of your invention, answering these three questions to

  • 1. What have you invented?
  • 2. Where will it be used?
  • 3. What are the advantages?

Applicants should make sure that their idea/invention is not already on the market.   Entries will be scored on their originality, benefits, market potential, and development / commercialisation feasibility.  All submissions will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Closing date for entries is 22 October 2010.  The announcement of the winning entries will be made at an event in DIT during Innovation Dublin, 10 ? 20 November, when details of some of the outstanding entries will be presented.
