Thursday 21st January 2010

Why not give Irish a try this year by joining one of the many Irish language classes for staff and students running in 6 DIT locations this semester? The classes are organised by Oifig na Gaeilge, DIT?s Irish Language Office with the support of the Staff Training and Development Unit. Nine classes in total will take place this semester, aimed at learners from complete beginners to intermediate level and are free of charge to all staff and students.

The classes will take place at lunchtimes and in the evenings on weekdays and will run for 6 weeks, beginning the week of February 1st until March 8th 2010. The classes are informal and conversation based and the levels correspond with the European Certificate in Irish (www.teg.ie), an examination system for Irish language learners, should you wish to seek a qualification in Irish.

Oifig na Gaeilge will also be organising a programme of social and cultural events this season to support the Irish classes and keep an eye on Oifig na Gaeilge?s website for upcoming events. Staff in DIT Bolton St. and Aungier St. campuses are also organising informal Irish language conversation circles, ciorcail chomhrá, in order to provide an opportunity to learn and practise everyday Irish in an informal setting. The ciorcail chomhrá are open to everyone and take place in Bolton St. canteen on Thursday mornings from 11a.m and in Aungier St. on Tuesday lunchtimes from 1-1.45p.m in the staff room, 2-049.

Staff and student timetables as well as registration forms are available on Oifig na Gaeilge?s website http://www.dit.ie/services/gaeilge/ranganna/ and for further information contact Siobhán in Oifig na Gaeilge at gaeilge@dit.ie / 4027043.
