DIT Irish Language Student Residency Scheme Scholarships 2010/11

Oifig na Gaeilge, DIT?s Irish Language Office invites applications for DIT?s Irish Language Student Residency Scheme 2010/11. The Scheme is organised by Oifig na Gaeilge and Campus Life, DIT in order to develop and support the Institute?s Irish language speaking community and to promote the use of Irish amongst DIT?s student population.

DIT is offering scholarships to students with Irish to share accommodation through the medium of Irish during the academic year in Dublin city centre. Irish will be the spoken language in the residence. Applicants must be able to speak Irish and will have to actively promote and encourage the use of Irish on campus and amongst DIT?s student community. This is a unique opportunity to live through the medium of Irish with other DIT students.

DIT?s Irish Language Student Residency Scheme is proving very successful this year.  Six students from around the country are taking part in the scheme and living in a house in Rathmines. The students are studying various programmes in DIT, including, Quantity Surveying, Journalism, Early Childhood Education, Event Management, Business & Management and Human Nutrition & Dietetics. They have organised lots of Gaeilge events to date on the various campuses and in city venues including a regular music session, céilís, pizza lunches, open evenings and they are planning lots more events from now until the end of the semester.

The residence in 2010/11 will again be located in the city centre and normal rental costs will apply. However, successful applicants will receive scholarships worth 850 euro each, which will be paid towards some of the rental costs. Current full-time DIT students as well as students who will begin study in DIT for the first time in September 2010 are invited to apply for the Residency Scheme.

The closing date for applications for the 2010/11 Irish Language Student Residency Scheme is Friday 19th March 2010. The scheme is open to students who are / will be studying on any full-time programme in DIT and application forms and information is available from Oifig na Gaeilge at 4027043; gaeilge@dit.ie or go to http://www.dit.ie/services/gaeilge/sceimconaithestudentresidence/
