Ballymun Lullaby to screen in IFI and Cineworld this December

29th November 2011: "Ballymun Lullaby" will be screened in Cineworld coming up to Christmas. It will be screened three times daily from Friday, 16th until Friday, 23rd December. The film will also be shown for the same period in the Irish Film Institute (IFI). In addition, the Ballymun Children’s Choir will sing Christmas carols in the IFI before the screenings on December 16th and 18th and there will be a post-screening Q&A with director Frank Berry on December 16th.

This really has been a remarkable year for this film. Since its premiere in the Jameson Dublin Film Festival in early February it has featured in festivals in Galway, Hollywood, New York and Cork.

Hats off to all involved including DIT’s Community Links team and the films camera crew -Frank and Kevin Duffy, of DIT’s School of Media.

Ballymun Lullaby documents Music Director, Ron Cooney and children from the Ballymun Music Programme as they prepared for the recording of their CD ‘Ballymun Lullaby’. In this unique documentary film, independent film maker Frank Berry captures all those involved in the Ballymun Music Programme behind the scenes and during rehearsals, as well as in recordings and performances.

The Ballymun Music Programme is a very successful initiative of the DIT Community Links programme. Led by Ron Cooney, and founded nearly 15 years ago, this unique programme has a very simple agenda: to provide an introduction to music through free music lessons in a community that had almost no access to music education.
