Be Inspired November 2011¿

30th November 2011: The DIT Hothouse Be Inspired, Be an Entrepreneur 2011 series concluded yesterday with a highly enjoyable discussion featuring Cathal Gaffney, founder & CEO of Brown Bag Films, Niall Harbison, of Simply Zesty online marketing agency and Ronan Perceval of CRM software developers, Phorest.

Interviewed live on stage by MC Conall O' Móraín, of Today FM, Cathal outlined how Brown Bag Films has grown into an internationally renowned animation studio which has been Oscar nominated twice- for Give Up yer Aul Sins in 2002 and for Granny O’Grimm in 2010. Cathal had just returned from the 2011 BAFTA Awards in London where Brown Bag Films narrowly missed out on the top prize for children’s animation.  Cathal claimed that the secret of Brown Bag Films’ success was simply ‘loving what we do’. His advice to the audience was to get involved in something you have a passion for rather than pursuing a venture for purely financial rewards. ‘If you find something you love doing, you’re more likely to be successful at it,’ he reasoned.

Niall Harbison and Ronan Perceval, graduates of the DIT Hothouse Venture Programme, agreed with Cathal that having a passion for what you’re doing is fundamental for any entrepreneur. Ronan emphasised that self-belief and persistency are crucial for building a successful business, particularly in the early stages when money is tight.
