Dr Bryan Duggan of the DIT School of Computing has been appointed as a judge at the worldwide Imagine Cup finals which takes place in New York in July 2011. The Imagine Cup is the world’s largest student software competition and it attracts over 100,000 entrants each year.  Around 500 students make it to the worldwide finals. This year’s competition, which promises to be the biggest yet, was launched by Michelle Obama at last years worldwide finals. The Imagine Cup challenges students to create solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems such as poverty, health and the environment. Bryan is no stranger to the Imagine Cup having mentored DIT student teams in previous competitions including in Seoul Korea in 2007 and Warsaw, Poland in 2010:

Speaking on his appointment as a judge Dr. Duggan said: "It’s a great honour to be chosen as the first Imagine Cup judge from an Irish third level institute and I hope to bring ideas back that will inspire future DIT teams".
