The Chinese Bridge Competition for Irish college students

The 2011 competition was the preliminary event for the 10th Chinese Bridge Competition for World College Students due to take place in Beijing in the summer. The competition was held on the 26th March 2011 in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dublin. The organiser of the competition was the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland, and the executive organiser was the Confucius Institute for Ireland, UCD. The theme of this year’s competition was: Charming Chinese, Colourful China.

Matthew Hanlon, Lester Tse, Tran Thi Phuong Dung, David Kelly, and Shane Whelan represented the School of Languages at DIT, in the 2011 competition. They are all students on the BA (Hons) Chinese and International Business programme.

The DIT students were very successful. Matthew Hanlon won second prize and Tran Thi Phuong Dung and Shane Whelan tied for the third prize.

The Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Liu Biwei awarded a special prize to Ms. Jun Ni for her work in organizing and preparing the students for participation in the event.
