Time: 10.00am, to 2.00pm

Venue: Gleeson Theatre, DIT Kevin Street, Dublin 8

The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will open its doors to the public on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 10.00am to 2.00pm in Gleeson Theatre, DIT Kevin Street, Dublin 8. The Conservatory holds an Open Day every year giving prospective students, parents and teachers the chance to discover the wide range of full-time and part-time study options available at the Conservatory of Music and Drama at DIT.

According to Dr William Halpin, Head of Conservatory; ‘The Open Day is an ideal opportunity for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as junior students and their parents to explore the many learning opportunities on offer in the DIT Conservatory’.

Students planning to pursue a full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programme in music or drama will be able to speak with lecturers and current students. In addition visitors will be treated to individual and ensemble performances by current Conservatory students of all ages.

For young students and parents interested in the Junior Conservatory, teachers will be on hand to demonstrate instruments and to answer any questions that parents and students might have. So whether you want to find out what's the best age for your child to start music lessons, or what instrument would suit you, DIT staff will be delighted to help you with any questions that you might have.

With regards to the Junior Conservatory, DIT believes that it is essential that musical talent in children be identified and developed at an early age. As such, and in addition to individual tuition in the broadest range of instruments and voice, the Conservatory holds Pre-Instrumental Classes on Saturday mornings for children as young as three and there are Recorder Classes for children aged six to 11 years with an interest in learning a wind instrument.

Applications for study at the Junior Conservatory for the ’11 / ’12 Academic year are now open and vacancies exist for individual tuition in all instruments – piano, organ, strings, wind, brass, percussion, and voice.

With a tradition stretching back over a hundred years, the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama has produced many of Ireland’s finest musicians and actors. Graduates of the Conservatory have followed careers in classical and traditional music performance, music education, music technology, composition, the dramatic arts and the other cultural industries. Staff, many of whom are internationally recognised performers, encourage their students at every level to achieve the highest artistic and intellectual standards.

Osclófar doirse Ardscoil an Cheoil agus na Drámaíochta ITBÁC don phobal Dé Sathairn 12 Márta 2011 idir 10 am agus 2 pm i dTéatar Gleeson, ITBÁC Shráid Chaoimhín, BÁC 8. Bíonn Lá Oscailte san Ardscoil gach bliain, rud a thugann deis do mhic léinn, do thuismitheoirí agus do mhúinteoirí eolas a fháil ar an réimse leathan de roghanna staidéir, idir chúrsaí lánaimseartha agus chúrsaí páirtaimseartha, atá ar fáil in Ardscoil an Cheoil agus na Drámaíochta ITBÁC.

De réir Dr William Halpin, Ceannasaí na hArdscoile, is sár-deis é d’fhochéimí agus d’iarchéimí ionchasacha, chomh maith le mic léinn shóisearacha agus a gcuid tuismitheoirí, iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar an iliomad deis foghlama atá á n-ofráil in Ardscoil ITBÁC.

Beidh deis ag mic léinn atá ar intinn dul le cúrsa sa cheol no sa drámaíocht, mar fhochéimí lánaimseartha nó mar iarchéimí, labhairt le léachtóirí agus mic léinn na linne seo. Chomh maith, beidh taibhithe ceoil aonaracha agus ensemble a gcur i láthair do na cuairteoirí ag mic léinn de réimse leathan aoise ón Ardscoil.

Beidh múinteoirí ar fáil chun uirlis a thaispeáint agus chun ceisteanna fhreagairt ó mhic léinn óga, a bhfuil suim acu san Ardscoil Shóisearach, agus a dtuismitheoirí. Mar sin, má theastaíonn uait a fháil amach cad é an aois is fearr páiste a chur ag ceol, no cén uirlis a mbeadh oiriúnach do do pháiste, beidh foireann ITBAC an-sásta cabhrú leat agus do cheisteanna a fhreagairt.

Maidir leis an Ardscoil Shóisearach, creideann ITBÁC go bhfuil sé riachtanach go n-aithnítear paistí le tallann an cheoil agus go ndéanfar forbairt ar an tallann sin fad is atá na páistí fós óg. Chuige sin, chomh maith le teagasc aonarach i réimse leathan uirlisí agus gutha, bíonn Ranganna Réamhuirlise ar bun ag an Ardscoil maidin Dé Sathairn do pháistí 3 bliana d’aois agus níos sinne agus tá ranganna don fhliúit Shasanach ann do pháistí idir 6 bliana agus 11 bhliain d’aois agus suim acu sna gaothuirlisí.

Glactar anois le hiarratais le haghaigh na bliana Acadúla ‘11/’12 san Ardscoil Shóisearach agus tá folúntais ann i gcóir teagasc aonarach do na huirlisí ar fad- piano, orgán, téaduirlisí, gaothuirlisí, práis, cnaguirlisí agus guth.

Tá traidisiún seanbhunaithe ag an Ardscoil agus le céad bliain anuas tá cuid mhór de phlúr na gceoltóirí agus na n-aisteoirí Éireannacha á gcothú inti. Tá gairmeacha éagsúla á leanúint ag céimí na hArdscoile –taibhiú sa cheol claiseacach agus traidisiúnta, oideachas sa cheol, teicneolaíocht an cheoil, cumadóireacht, na gníomhealaíona agus earnálacha cultúrtha eile. Spreagann an fhoireann, a bhfuil clú idirnáisiúnta bainte amach ag cuid mhór acu, na mic léinn ag gach leibhéal chun caighdeáin arda intleachtúla agus ealaíne a bhaint amach.
