DIT Access service hosts Take 5 Summer School

28th June 2011

Over 80 second level students from Dublin descended on DIT this month to try out college life as part of the Take 5 Summer School. The Take 5 Summer School is a collaborative summer school where DIT joins forces with DCU, NUIM, TCD and UCD to deliver a fun-filled 5 day summer school for 4th and 5th year second level students. An annual event, this year’s Take 5 Summer School took place between 8th – 14th of June 2011. The purpose of the Summer School is to provide the young students with a realistic experience of college life, and in doing so, to promote and encourage a greater number to pursue third level education and qualifications.

Over the duration of the Take 5 Summer School, the group of second level students are given the opportunity to attend a different college each day and to be a part of college life by attending lectures and workshops and visiting laboratories, taking part in sports and visiting sites around campus. This year the DIT Take 5 Summer School day took place in DIT Bolton St where the focus was on Engineering. The group of second level students took part in a number of interactive lectures and workshops including Roboslam, Bodyaudio, Speed Coaster and Product Design where they gained a flavour of what it would be like to study engineering at DIT.

DIT would like to say a big thanks to everyone who made the DIT day a success – Eddie Conlon, Ted Burke, Jack Keegan, Kevin Delaney, Colm O’ Kane, Leslie Smith and Thomas Freir as well as the DIT students who gave up their time to help out on the day.
