DIT Computing student claims prestigious Eircom Spider Award

17th November 2011: Liam Carey, a current student on DIT’s MSc in Computing (Information and Knowledge Management) programme was last Thursday (10 November 2011) presented with an Eircom Spider award for his website Bandpages.ie, which Liam set up in 2010.

Dubbed the Oscars of the digital world, the Eircom Spiders Awards are an annual event honouring Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and celebrating the successes of the Irish internet and digital media. This year’s awards took place in the Convention Centre Dublin and were hosted by comedian Dara O’Briain. During the awards ceremony Liam’s website Bandpages.ie¿ was declared category winner for being “clean, simple, and easy to use”.

According to Liam, Bandpages.ie¿ is an on-line directory for booking ‘live’ music acts in Ireland for events such as weddings, private parties, special events, pubs and music clubs. The website was launched in 2010 after securing a ‘priming grant’ from Dublin City Enterprise Board.

DIT would like to congratulate Liam on his achievement. We would also like to congratulate our Journalism students who were also short listed for this year’s Spider awards, for their innovative news website for primary schools, www.clic.ie, developed in collaboration with our Community Links programme.
