This Saturday 26th November 2011 at 8pm in the National Concert Hall staff and students of the DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama will present a musical salute to their colleague and mentor, the late great Monica Bonnie.

Directed by percussionist Noel Eccles “The Legend of Monica Bonnie” promises a night of colour and rhythm and a spectacular showcase of music from Ireland and throughout the world, with performances from an array of the DIT Conservatory’s performing groups including DIT Choral Society, Brass Ensemble, Big Band, Irish Traditional Ensemble, Percussion Ensembles and Solo Performers.

“The Legend of Monica Bonnie” celebrates the life of one of Ireland’s brightest and most exuberant performers and educators. Female percussionists are rare enough, but even if they weren’t, Monica Bonnie would stand out for her exuberant performances and for her gift as an educator. Monica, who died in April this year, was a performer from the age of four and a lecturer in the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama for many years. Tickets are priced from €10 and are available from www.nch.ie.
