eDIT Festival 2011 – DIT 1st Cultural Festival

22nd March 2011

DIT Societies are holding the first DIT Cultural Festival, the eDIT Festival.  The eDIT Festival is a week-long celebration of the talents and achievements of DIT students, alumni and staff.  With everything from cultural exhibitions and impromptu performances to workshops and world class DJs, the eDIT Festival will have something for everyone. Running from the 25th March to the 6 of April. eDIT Festival 2011 is a chance for students to have fun but equally a chance for them to get out, be inspired and interact with the city and each other.

Thanks to the support of DIT Societies, the real driving force behind eDIT, every euro from wristbands sales will go directly to Focus Ireland. These events celebrate and showcase the talent of DIT students and we hope you’ll take the time to explore our college, this city and everything that eDIT 2011 has to offer.

In an effort to make this event to make this event affordable to students we have packages available using the concept of wrist bands being sold in the DIT Student Union Shops for €8 red wrist band and €25 green wrist band.

A red wrist band is €8 and entitles the wearer to entry to gigs on Monday and Thursday in the Grand Social featuring Bands like Bipolar Empire, the Minutes, Codes and DJs including Josh Gordon, Mik Pyro and Shameboy.  Also, free entry to all the exhibitions, DIT battle of the bands final, DIT film festival and the DIT music ensemble society performances.

Limited amounts of green wrist bands are available at €25 and grant entry to everything on the red wrist band, plus €5 off  tickets to the DIT Fashion Show, free into DIT Casino Night and free into Dublin Juggling Convention & Gala Show

Ned Kaar,  product design Student and eDIT festival Committee member says “The DIT Festival aims to harness the talent and skill of DIT students, alumni and staff to create a cohesive cultural experience. We see the event as a chance to showcase these talents simultaneously within one of Dublins cultural heartlands. With the support of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust we would use a multitude of venues to create an engrossing cultural display for the people of Dublin, acting as a backdrop to further social events organised within local clubs, public houses and public spaces. “

We aim to bring together a comprehensive body of work by students, graduates and staff from eleven different courses within the DIT and organise and facilitate workshops and talks on a range of DIT course-related topics.  Festival goers will have the opportunity to witness artistic work by the best and brightest in DIT, all within the vibrant and concentrated center of Dublin city. We also envision a space dedicated to an interactive creative experience to catalogue the festival. By occupying gallery spaces within Temple Bar for the week we hope to entice students, alumni and the general public to engage with DIT and Temple Bar in a new and exciting way.

On the Monday and Thursday evening of the festival we will be throwing two of the largest social nights of the DIT calendar. With everything from the DIT Music Ensemble Society to the finalists from in-house competitions such as the DIT Spinoff Competition, our aim is to have something for everyone.

DIT is a hothouse for passionate and involved students and we have many societies and students involved in the festival week.

With the city as our campus we hope that with your support we can offer fellow students the opportunity to explore their campus through the eDIT Festival 2011.

Max Federov member of the Organizing committee says “It’s about time that DIT stood up and organised a cultural & social event to rival the likes of Trinity Ball and UCD Ball.” We want to hold the two biggest social nights of the year for DIT students within the confines of Temple Bar and we want to make it something completely new that students have never experienced before. “
