Organised by the DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology) DJ Society, who are celebrating their 10th anniversary, this promises to be an excellent intervarsity event, with an Electronic Music Conference happening during the day of the final, at 1pm in Gleeson Hall, DIT Kevin Street.  This conference is the first of its kind in Ireland and will feature leading figures in the Irish Industry. Mr. Springs (2fm), John Gibbons (Spin 103.8), Trevor O’Shea and Eoin Cregan of Bodytonic Collective, along with ten other top industry figures who will be there.

According to Will Kinsella, who founded the DJ society in 2001 and will moderate the conference “I set up the society as an outlet for DJs and a way for them to get into the industry and create opportunities. I am proud that people have kept it going and it’s taken a lot of work. It has grown to be a national phenomenon.”

Speaking about the conference, current chairperson of the society, Conor Gilleran explained “it’s very hard to get work these days and the music industry is a really important source of part time work for many and a very credible career path for the future.

The conference will provide a great platform to connect with, and learn from the experience of highly respected figures in the industry, on aspects such as event management, production, radio, setting up a record label and live performance.”

Riva Starr has been described as “Dance music’s future star - colourful, exuberant and, crucially, dynamite on the dance floor”. He was named as “Player of the Year” in IDJ (International DJ), as well as Mixmag’s “Star of the Year”… According to the student organizers, “2011 is going to be an even bigger year for Riva, so make sure to catch his Dublin set before his meteoric rise to fame.”

Proceeds from both events will go to the Martin Whitehead Hospice fund, which is currently the number one fundraiser on mycharity.ie. This fund goes toward the Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, where specialist care is provided for people with a range of needs, from rehabilitation to end of life care. This a truly worthwhile cause, providing critical support services for patients and their families at a most difficult time in their lives.
