Allegro for Adults commences 16th October - late applications accepted


A new course of Allegro for Adults will commence on Tuesday 16th October 2012 and there are a few places still available for late applications.

    Anybody over 18 years of age
  • Do I need a musical background?
    Allegro 1 is suited to beginners or those with some musical knowledge
  • How long is the course?
    Each course is one year (two semesters)
  • What is the time commitment?
    One lecture per week : 1hour 30minutes duration.

Venue: DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama, Chatham Row, Dublin 2. 

Day: Tuesdays

Time: 12.30-2PM (CLASS 1hour 30mins per week)

Semesters:  First semester – October – end of January 2013. Second semester – February – June 2013


€650 (Can be paid in two installments at start of each semester)


Allegro 1 requires no previous musical experience.  It covers beginner/ foundation - intermediate level musicianship. The course has three components:

1) aural training – learning about rhythm and melody through singing and percussion instruments.

 2) written skills – learning about keys, scales, intervals and chords and how to use them in a musical context.. Also some of the basics of composition will be covered including creating rhythmic patterns, writing a melody, adding chords to melody and  composing a melody to chords.

3) listening – What are we listening for when we hear music: How do we listen? The course offers guidelines on learning how to listen to music and develop an understanding of musical styles. Some of the great composers and their works will be discussed.
