DIT GAA new sponsorship deal with First Ireland.

Dublin, 19 November 2012: First Ireland Insurance and Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) are excited to announce a new sponsorship deal for the College’s GAA club. Football Club Chairman and 2012 All Ireland Mayo Football Finalist, AidanO’Shea is thrilled with the deal. He remarked “This is great news for us that First Ireland has decided to come on board as our club sponsor. We realise that in the times in which we live, that sponsorship is hard to come by and therefore we are very appreciative of First Ireland’s agreement to come on board. I hope that it will be a beneficial partnership this year and in the years to come.”

Also present at the launch were Senior Inter county players Darran O’Sullivan of Kerry, and Dublin’s Liam Rushe.

First Ireland is one of the largest Irish owned Insurance Brokers in the country handling all your insurance needs from car & home through to sports clubs and large businesses, with 100 dedicated staff at their head office in Park Gate Street and branch office in Kildare. One of these is Dearbhla Brennan, a DIT graduate who is delighted to see a synergy between her new employers and her place of academia.

Sarah Sheridan, Director of Personal Insurances in First Ireland, commented "We are delighted to partner with DIT GAA and we believe it is a great opportunity to work together for the benefit of all DIT students. We understand that insurance premiums for young drivers, especially students, are very costly and can end up pricing young drivers out of the market. We are delighted to present our programme to DIT students which enables young & learner drivers to earn a one year introductory no claims bonus as well as getting further discounts up to 20% off standard policy rates.

First Ireland have also arranged a special deal on driving lessons for DIT Students through one of their large RSA ADI approved Driving Instructor clients, bringing down the overall cost of learner drivers getting on the road by saving on lessons as well as Insurance.

Like First Ireland, the GAA club has also seen tremendous recent growth. It has grown to become part of the biggest third level GAA club in the country. The club fields five Fresher teams across men’s football, ladies football, hurling and camogie. There are 12 teams that will compete in various competitions in this academic year. The GAA Club prides itself on catering for more than just elite players and is as much a social club as it is a club in pursuit of silverware. These 12 teams compete from Junior to senior level in the Third level College leagues and cup competitions.

DIT compete in the Inter County O’Byrne Cup and Walsh Cup competitions, where, this January, they could be drawn against any county in Leinster. Following this the College enter the main Third Level competitions; the Sigerson, Fitzgibbon, Lynch and Purcell Cups. The Club play all their home games in Grangegorman; the exciting future home of DIT. The GAA club is the first part of the DIT organisation to have a presence on this site
