“As president of News Soc I am delighted that Jarlath has been appointed Editor and look forward to working with him,” said Aislinn McCooey, News Soc President. “I think he will be a great asset to The Edition staff. I look forward to the year and hope we can continue to improve the standard of the paper.”

Interviews for the position were held recently and since being appointed the MA student has been working alongside Societies Officers, Anita Conway and Teri O’Boyle to overhaul the paper’s policies and strategic plan. The societies’ officers have been involved with the paper since its inception as DIT News five years ago.

“I’m really looking forward to the year ahead,” Moloney said on being appointed to The Edition. “We’re really targeting Socs week and making the website a priority this year. We have our first social planned for Socs week and want to get the whole study body involved.”

In a bid to offer the students more than just the chance of working on the paper, Moloney is laying out the plans for tutorials and guest speakers alongside Anita and Teri. It is hoped these changes will give the News Soc back the society side of its name. “Making the paper a fun working environment is one of our main priorities this year.  If we can do that, we can hopefully establish the paper as a legacy for the students.”

Look out for the first of this year’s, The Edition which will be out for Socs week on the 24th of September.
