Second level students explore DIT student life

July 2012: The College of Arts and Tourism recently hosted an open day for students from local schools linked to the DIT Access Service. Three schools took part in the day (Larkin Community College, Mount Carmel Secondary School and CBS Westland Row) with a total of 55 Transition and fifth year pupils in attendance.  The purpose of the open day was to give second level students from DIT’s link schools the opportunity to explore the college of Arts and Tourism in a relaxed and fun environment.

The day started with information on the courses available in the area of Arts and Tourism. Presentations were given from four schools; Social Sciences, creative and performing arts, culinary arts and hospitality management and tourism.  The presentations were followed by the 2nd level students taking a tour of the Cathal Brugha St campus. The Students Union were also in attendance providing an information session about college and what it’s like to be a DIT student. The last talk the local students received was from the careers service, explaining to the group the type of future careers that graduates could expect and opportunities available to them.
