Students Learning With Communities Annual Awards 2013
More than 100 people attended the celebration of collaborative curriculum-based projects during 2012-2013. DIT students and community partners received awards for their participation in community-based learning and community-based research projects this year.
They were joined for the celebration by their fellow students, DIT staff, community partners and colleagues from other Higher Education Institutions who support DIT in this work.
DIT President, Professor Brian Norton, presented the awards. Both Professor Norton and Director of Student Services, Dr Noel O’Connor, spoke about the importance of curriculum-based civic engagement across to DIT.
They also spoke about the benefits it brings to students’ learning, the enthusiasm of supervising staff and the contribution of participating community partners and the benefits to them.

This year, more than 1,100 students on 49 programmes across DIT were involved in collaborative projects with a wide range of community partners, supervised by 60 academic staff. These projects are supported by DIT’s Programme for Students Learning With Communities.
