CPD jazz improvisation course – Open now for applications

This course introduces students with technical proficiency on their instrument/voice to the concept of jazz improvisation and performance. Students will be taught in an ensemble format, with an emphasis on self-directed preparation. Subjects covered include:

  • Jazz Ear Training
  • Jazz Harmony & Theory
  • Improvisation
  • Rhythm
  • Jazz Standard Songs
  • Transcription
  • Analysts of Solos
  • History of Jazz
  • Performance
  • Composition
  • Jazz Technique (general)

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course students will have:

A knowledge and understanding of the practical application of jazz harmony and theory, improvisation and jazz techniques.A knowledge of the broad periods of the history of jazz and appropriate repertoire.A competency in performing selected jazz standards within ensemble settings.A competency in performing as part of an ensemble and understanding of the role of the students’ instrument/voice within a ensemble context.

On completion of the course, students will receive 5 ECTS at NFQ Level 6.

Day/Time: Thursdays 6-8pm

Duration: 12 weeks, Thursday 7 February - Thursday 9 May inclusive (no classes on Thursday 28 March and Thursday 4 April)
