16 July 2013: DIT graduates will line out for both London and Mayo in the 2013 Connacht Senior Football Final this weekend.

Seamus Hannon (captain) and Lorcan Mulvey will play for London, which has made it to the Connacht Senior Final for the first time in its 117-year history.

Seamus, who is from Longford, was a Fitzgibbon hurler with DIT and also played football for the Longford county team. He studied civil engineering at DIT Bolton Street and has lived in London since October 2010.

London face Mayo, whose players include DIT grads Aidan O’Shea, Tom Cunniffe, Kevin McLoughlin, Barry Moran and Alan Freeman.

Tom and Alan studied for the MSc in energy management at DIT, Kevin is a civil engineering graduate, Aidan is a logistic & supply chain graduate while Barry graduated with an MSc in strategic management.

London, who are nicknamed The Exiles, hadn’t won a game in Connacht since 1977 so this has been a hugely successful season for them – they’ve recently beaten Sligo and Leitrim in qualifying rounds.

Player Lorcan Mulvey, who studied part-time at DIT, was recently quoted as saying, “When lads move to London, they come to work, not to play football so this achievement just proves what amazing work is being done behind the scenes in London GAA.”

Nobody is calling the result of the final this weekend with the Mayo team also likely to put up a strong side.
