DIT takes part in Design Week 2013

01 November 2013: DIT is taking part in Design Week 2013, which takes place from 4 to 10 November and is a user-contributed festival focusing on design.

The School of Art, Design and Printing is involved in Student Creativity Day on Thursday 7 November (9.30am to 5.30pm).

“Student Creativity Day brings together students from a range of different courses all over the country for a daylong challenge,” says Barry Sheehan, lecturer in the School of Art, Design and Printing. “Teams are selected at random and have to work together to a defined brief.

“The day gives students the opportunity to interact with each other and explore each other’s discipline in a challenging and fun environment. Participants don’t need to be designers – an interest in creative solutions is the key requirement.”

There’s a huge range of other Design Week events lined up – walks, talks, launches, exhibitions, workshops and much more (see www.designweek.ie for more).

“Our audience includes the designers who design things, the business community who purchase design services and, most importantly, the public who are the end users of all designers’ services,” says Barry.

“Ireland is internationally known and celebrated for its creativity. Design is a creative activity and plays a key role in the social, cultural and economic framework of the island.”

This year’s Student Creativity Day takes place at DIT Mountjoy Square. Entry is free but pre-registration is essential (email barry.sheehan@dit.ie).
