DIT Travel Scholarship in Renewable Energy opens for applications

  • Completed a Masters Degree or a PhD at DIT?
  • Achieved a 2:1 result or higher in a Masters programme?
  • Attained their qualification within the past two academic years?

If the answer to all these questions is YES, then you are eligible to apply to be the 2014 DIT Travel Scholar in Renewable Energy!

Thanks to the support and commitment of a generous donor the DIT Travel Scholarship provides an opportunity for a high-achieving DIT graduate with a Masters Degree or PhD to pursue a practical work assignment in a developing country in the area of renewable energy.

The DIT Travel Scholarship in Renewable Energy is now in its third year and will see a new scholar take up a three month placement in a developing country from February 2014.

The journey so far has seen DIT graduates Declan Arthur and Fintan McLoughlin take up three month placements with Renewable World in Kenya and Nepal respectively.

The DIT Travel Scholarship provides an opportunity for a high-achieving DIT graduate with a Masters Degree or PhD to pursue a practical work assignment in a developing country in the area of renewable energy. The recipient will work for a period of up to three months on a project managed by the international charity Renewable World. The graduate’s time will be divided between the Renewable World headquarters in the UK (two weeks) and time in the field (10 weeks).

The scholarship will support the travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for a successful graduate.

The benefits that this scholarship will provide to a DIT graduate are as follows:

  • A unique experience to deepen the graduate’s knowledge and understanding of the contribution of renewable energy to poverty alleviation and income generation in the developing world
  • An opportunity to make a significant contribution to a local community in a developing country
  • Financial support of up to €10,000 for travel, accommodation and subsistence
  • Awarded the title of the DIT Travel Scholar in Renewable Energy 2014
