DIT Graduate Show 2013

30 May 2013: The most wide-ranging graduate exhibition in the country - DIT Graduate Show 2013 - will begin on 4 June (Tuesday) and will run until 16 June.

Open to the public, and free of charge, the end of year exhibitions showcase the diverse creativity and talent of final year students across an array of disciplines in DIT.

The show includes work from students of fine art, visual communications, photography, interior and furniture design, visual merchandising, design display and product design. The School of Architecture will be hosting an End of Year Exhibition, featuring students from several years in the School.  For a sneak preview of what will be shown at the shows:

An annual showcase, the DIT Graduate Show 2013 is a highlight of the academic year both for final-year students and their lecturers and mentors.

It gives students the opportunity to showcase their creativity, talent and hard work and for members of the DIT community and the public to view their creations.

Exhibitions take place in a number of venues across Dublin city including DIT Portland Row, Temple Bar, DIT Linen Hall and The Chocolate Factory, King’s Inn Street (the School of Media Student Showcase has already taken place along with graduate recitals by students from the Conservatory of Music & Drama).

The Chocolate Factory will host part of DITX2013 (Visual Communications, Interior & Furniture Design, Visual Merchandising and Product Design).

The building fits exactly with the Grad Show philosophy of re-invention and innovation.

It was once the William & Woods Ltd factory, which produced chocolate and sweets. After lying idle for six years, it has now become a creative space for artists, designers, photographers and, since last year, urban farmers.

‘In a world where the rapid circulation of predominantly photographic images reaches such volumes and the viral transmutation of the visual is now distributed, commonplace and everyday, why do we still ask our graduates to hang images on walls in public spaces?’

This question, posed by Martin McCabe in his contribution to the 2013 catalogue, invites the viewer to once again consider the photograph as object or installation component, physically intervening to re-present, re-construct and re-connect the particular spaces and sites of investigation which occupy these photographers.
