DIT students representing Ireland at Global Student Challenge in Hong Kong

20 June 2013: Four product design students from DIT are flying out to Hong Kong to take part in an enterprise competition that will see 30 teams from around the world competing for prizes.

Conor Bennett (21), Darren Bratten (22), Stephen Tyrell (23) and Henry Daly (23) make up the team and have just completed their final year at DIT.

They will take part in Global Student Challenge, which is offering total prize money of USD$13,000 across six awards.

The Irish team’s product, Strata Vision, helps reduce clean room contamination by scanning personnel during gowning, ensuring the protective clothing is worn correctly. It’s applicable to the pharmaceutical, medical device, semi-conductor and food manufacturing industries.

A preliminary patent has been filed and the project is to be developed further with DIT Hothouse, on the team’s return from Hong Kong.

DIT is the only Irish college chosen by the judges this year.

The semi-finals of the competition take place at Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 24 June, with the finals taking place on 27 June.
