Enduring love

28 February 2013: A vivid production of Romeo and Juliet opens tonight, performed by the final year students of Drama at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. Directed by Mary Moynihan, the Shakespearean classic is set in our contemporary world but carries all of the dramatic passion that has made the story endure through the centuries.

Directing the cast of sixteen final year students of Drama at DIT, Moynihan says Shakespeare's compelling characters show humanity in all its virtues and vices. His language is very accessible - when the actors find the rhythm, like a human heartbeat, they make it come alive. Shakespeare was writing for a sophisticated theatre audience drawn from all classes of society at the time. His plays were the rock concerts of their time and audiences expected entertainment and to be emotionally engaged. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is an experience not to be missed.
