Marketing Scholarship winner encourages others to apply for this year’s scheme

25 June 2013: A marketing scholarship winner from DIT and the Marketing Institute of Ireland is in the final stages of her postgraduate course and is encouraging others to apply for this year’s scholarship.

Liz Denieffe, a mum-of-two from Naas, Co Kildare, enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Marketing last autumn and is now finishing up her final project.

“I created the application for the scholarship while I was at a wedding of all places,” says Liz. “It was a case of just finding the few minutes to fill in the form and I couldn’t believe it when I won the scholarship – I’d never won anything!”

Liz, who has a degree in computer science, had been working in marketing but wanted to have a solid qualification in that field.

“I had been looking to do a Masters but I was so conscious of the time it would take and the money too. I think winning the scholarship really was the difference between me doing the course and not doing the course.”

Going back to education two evenings a week was a challenge for Liz who works full-time fundraising for Barretstown and has two young children.

“It had been 10 years since I’d been in college and I did have to get used to the time taken up by coursework again. But doing the course reminded me of the things that I’m good at and the strengths I have. I’m really glad that I did it and it’s been such a confidence booster.”

Liz is working on her final project, which looks at corporate social responsibility, why there is some cynicism around it and the role that it can play in charities’ fundraising.

She’s encouraging others to apply for this year’s Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Marketing Scholarship.

The scholarship covers 80 per cent of the full fees for the programme, which is a one-year part-time programme. It has been designed specifically for professionals who already may have strong qualifications in areas such as engineering, technology or the humanities, and who wish to gain a broader business perspective to enhance their careers.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Marketing, which is now entering its fourth year, should hold a 2.2 honours degree in a non-business discipline and have a minimum of three years work experience. There is an exceptional entry route for candidates who fall outside these criteria.

To be considered for the Scholarship, candidates should meet the criteria for standard entry and should also submit a 1,000-word essay, to be uploaded with their application (the essay should outline their motivation for applying for the programme, a proposed area they would look at for their management project and why they feel they should be considered for a scholarship).

For more information, visit or contact Programme Manager Lesley Murphy on 01 4027046 or via Applications for the scholarship must be made by Friday 16 August 2013.
