Need help with maths? Maths Learning Support Centre is re-launched

25 September 2013: The Maths Learning Support Centre has been re-launched and given a new website –

The centre, which re-opens this week, provides a free service to all undergraduates from any programme in DIT. Tutors provide support to students of all mathematical abilities and a timetable for drop-in sessions is now online.

“The new DIT Maths Learning Support Centre (MLSC) is here,” says Dr Cormac Breen of the School of Mathematical Sciences and co-ordinator of the service. “It replaces and builds up on the service provided by the previous Student Maths Learning Centre.

“The MLSC runs drop-in sessions in both the Bolton Street and Kevin Street campuses during teaching weeks and in the run up to examinations. Our dedicated team of tutors provide individual support on a first-come-first-served basis and are happy to help with all types and levels of mathematics.

“No appointment is necessary – students may just call into any of the drop-in centres during our opening hours with their lecture notes and tutorial sheets. The MLSC also offers online mathematical support, currently consisting of detailed notes on various areas of difficulty in mathematics as well as many useful links. These resources can be found on our website and on our webcourses module.”

The services that the MLSC offers are intended to be supplementary to lectures and tutorials and aren’t a replacement for attending them. Students who attend the drop-in sessions are required to bring their lecture notes and course materials with them.
