New Book Based on NITL’s Italian Collaboration

26 June 2013: Lecturers at the National Institute for Transport and Logistics (NITL), which is managed by the Department of Transport Engineering at DIT, are involved in a newly published book.

Supply Chain Management: Perspectives, Issues and Cases, came out of a programme in 2010/2011 when the NITL took part in an innovative postgraduate programme funded by a regional authority in Italy.

As part of the programme, 15 Italian students spent three months at DIT and completed nine modules from NITL’s comprehensive portfolio of postgraduate logistics/SCM programmes.

The students received their degrees from the University of Naple’s “Parthenope” in December 2011. The book is edited by Renato Passaro and Antonio Thomas from the university.

Four chapters of the books were contributed by NITL lecturers.

Dr Edward Sweeney of NITL said of the book’s publication, “This marks another milestone in the development of relationships with our academic and other partners in Naples and the Campania region of southern Italy. It is particularly gratifying to see a number of chapters based on research that was carried out by the students during the programme.”

Dr Sweeney’s chapter – entitled “The People Dimension in Logistics and Supply Chain Management – its Role and Importance” - can be downloaded at
