New Editor of ?The Edition? appointed by News Society

10 September 2013:  DIT News Society has announced the appointment of Alistair McConnell as Editor of college newspaper The Edition for the 2013/14 academic year.

Currently completing his thesis as part of DIT’s MA International Journalism, McConnell will be tasked with building upon the improvements shown at The Edition last year, and developing the online and mobile services provided by the paper.

Last year’s News Society President, Darragh Mowlds, said of the appointment: “I was delighted to hear that Al has been given the position of ‌ of the newspaper this year, and I really look forward to working with him. believe the experience that he has from being Deputy Editor last year will be invaluable for the paper as it strives to improve and develop.”

The appointment follows an interview process conducted in August, and work now begins for the new Editor, along with Societies Officers Anita Conway and Teri O’Boyle, to formulate the paper’s new strategy for the coming year.

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to oversee the next stage of The Edition’sdevelopment,” said McConnell. “Since the newspaper’s first incarnation as DIT News six years ago, there have been great improvements made to every aspect of it.”

McConnell also spoke of his enthusiasm for establishing The Edition as a forum through which all DIT students can voice their concerns, criticisms and opinions on every aspect of the college, the DIT experience, and beyond.

“This year we will be aiming to build on the work of last year’s Editor, Jarlath Moloney, and to earn The Edition a prominent place among the vibrant student journalism scene in Ireland,” he said.

News Soc will also be hosting tutorials on a range of key journalism skills for students of all courses at DIT, to be led by the new Editor, as well as guest speakers and social events throughout the year.

The first issue of this year’s Edition will be out during ‘Clubs and Socs Week’, beginning Monday 23rd September.
