19 March 3013:  A design from a DIT student Antonia Dowling from Lusk, Co. Dublin, is one of 19 designers competing this week to make the shortlist for the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show which takes place on Wednesday 17th April in Vicar Street Dublin.  Antonia, who is in her second year in Interior/Furniture Design at DIT, was chosen from 48 designs from 8 colleges around the country.

Competition is intense and the overall winner of the student design element of this annual show will receive a cash prize of €2500 and the 2013 Trophy.  Fifty student models will also compete for best male and best female models at the Show.

The final nine shortlisted student designs, each portraying the theme of "House of Chaos: A Twisted Tale". will be unveiled on Thursday 21st March.   The judging panel consists of Ireland's top stylist Maria Fusco, broadcaster Brendan Courtney, Fashion editor at the Weekend Magazine ,Bairbre Power and designer and previous winner of the student design element of the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show, Umit Kutluk.

The design Antonia submitted is called “Bondage Coutre”. Antonia said “When I think of the phrase 'House of chaos: a twisted tale' I imagine this old rundown house of pain, nothing is safe.  The house is a Tim Burton home where he and Dali have run free with madness. Individuality has taken over in a chaotic manner. My dress has risen from the twisted and chaotic surroundings, to form a beautiful darkened black chiffon, flowing floor length skirt, with multiple layers. A black cage dress to contrast with the fluidity of the flowing skirt and a black halo adds intensity to the dark couture. My dress is hellishly twisted and chaotic couture!”

The DIT Fashion Society is run entirely by students of DIT.  It is one of 80 societies in DIT which have 6,000 student members in total. The societies place heavy emphasis on the management of, and participation in, productions and campaigns such as the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show with a view to the practical education of the students involved.

Now in its tenth year, the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show repeatedly attracts a full house of 1,000 people.  This year, the Show takes place in Vicar Street on 17 April 2013.  Tickets cost €20 (€15 for students) and are available from DIT Students Union shops and
