TY students learn about engineering at DIT events

A group of 37 transition year students from schools all around Ireland took part in a programme of activities in DIT Bolton Street and Kevin Street that were designed to highlight the world of engineering.

The event consisted of a series of hands-on activities including building bridges out of spaghetti and competing to see which team had built the strongest one as well as building Roboslam electronic robots.

Other events included visits to the Aviva Stadium (a resounding success in the week of the Heineken Cup!) and the DIT Aviation Technology Centre.

The activities were designed to introduce students to the diverse, exciting and rewarding career opportunities offered by engineering and were sponsored by Engineers Ireland/STEPS. They were hosted by the DIT College of Engineering and Built Environment.

As a result of the events, 90 per cent of the participants in Engineering Your Future at DIT are now considering engineering as a career or study option in the future. More info can be found at www.roboslam.com.
