What's the Big Idea? Inventor Competition 2013


Closing Date Extended until Wednesday, 5th June

To accommodate staff and students with exam commitments at this time of year, DIT Hothouse has agreed to extend the Inventor Competition closing date until Wednesday, 5th June.

The competition is open to all staff and students of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT) and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB).

The competition is being jointly run by the Technology Transfer Offices of DIT, ITT and ITB and aims to promote and recognise innovation and creativity within the three Institutes of Technology. 

The competition is divided into the following award categories:

  • Best Overall Invention Award - Cash prize of €1,000 (sponsored by Hanna, Moore & Curley)
  • Best Staff member, Post Grad or Researcher Invention Award - Cash prize of €500 (sponsored by DIT Hothouse)
  • Best Undergraduate Student Invention Award - Cash prize of €500 (sponsored by DIT Hothouse)

To enter simply email a description of your invention answering the following questions to hothouse@dit.ie

  • What have you invented?
  • What are the advantages?    
  • Where will it be used?

Please note entries should be no more than 600 words in total.

Applicants should make sure that their idea/invention is not already on the market. 

Closing date for entries has been extended until Wednesday, 5th June.
