06 January 2014:  Prospective students across the country are searching websites and newspaper college supplements this month as they start to refine their college choices for September 2014.  Frank Costello, Head of Admissions in DIT, says he and his colleagues have been answering vast numbers of queries from students over the last few months and he is very impressed by the level of detail that many students request.  “DIT has more than 100 full-time undergraduate programmes to choose from, across a range of disciplines, so I think we get a good overview of what students are thinking about.  I’m impressed that students are increasingly aware that they should choose a programme of study that will stimulate them and that they will enjoy.  Guidance counsellors have been very effective in getting that message through to their students, and it will make the difference between students staying the course or dropping out.”

Here are some initial key dates to bear in mind at this stage of the CAO process:

20 January:         Closing date for CAO Early Bird application fee of €25

01 February:       Closing date for CAO applications, including listing of any ‘restricted application courses’.  In DIT these include subjects requiring submission of a portfolio – eg, Fine Art, Visual Communication, Interior and Furniture Design and subjects where an audition is required – eg, Music or Drama.

01 March:            Last date for amending initial choices to include one of the above ‘restricted application courses’ with a fee of €10
