DIT Student claims top spot in inaugural National Hospitality Student Cocktail Challenge 


06 February, 2014:   Christine McGrath from Ballina, Co. Mayo, a 1st year Culinary Entrepreneurship student at Dublin Institute of Technology, won 1st Prize at the inaugural National ‘Hospitality Student’ Cocktail Challenge 2014.  The competition, organised by the Bartenders Association of Ireland and sponsored by Edward Dillon & Co. Ltd, was held as part of Hospitality Expo in the RDS,

Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 on Wednesday 5th February 2014.


The competition had twenty-two young student professionals representing Institutes of Technology from Athlone, Cork, Dublin, Letterkenny and Tralee.  The students were judged by a panel of experts from participating colleges and Bartenders Association of Ireland executive members on criteria such as innovation, creativity and technical skills.  Christine McGrath achieved top marks for her innovative cocktail Lavender Goose which she made using lavender syrup, cranberry juice, southern comfort and Grey Goose Ultra Premium Vodka.

Speaking at the prizegiving Declan Byrne, President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland, thanked all the participating colleges, their course lecturers and students for making the competition such a huge success.
