DIT student takes top honours @ GamesFleadh Games Programming Festival

13 March 2014: Second year DIT Computer Science student Brian Willis was, yesterday, awarded the Windows Game Studio Challenge Prize at  the Games Fleadh Games Programming Festival while a team of first year DIT computer science students took runners up in the Robocode competition at the event.

An annual event,  Games Fleadh is Ireland’s premier student games development event . The competition takes a classic game as inspiration and challenges students to reimagine the game for Windows. This year’s theme was the classic text adventure “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” – itself inspired by the books, radio and TV series. Brian developed a planet-blasting Vogon Simulator with unique art style and comedy reflecting the 1980’s TV series. Brian’s game was entirely developed using Processing – a framework invented to help visual artists learn about programming.
