The DIT Green Campus Committee has launched the schedule for Green Week, which will take place from March 31st, 2014 to April 3rd, 2014.  Filipa Ferraz, one of the coordinators of the Green Week, said, “We have designed the Green Week schedule to show people in DIT how they can make a real difference, and live in a more sustainable manner”.

The Week is designed as a series of roadshows that will visit each of the main campus locations.

Lunchtime talks include:

  • Monday 31st March, 13:00-14:00 in Bolton Street, BL230

“How do we look at Sustainability” – a talk with Ciaran Cuffe, Louis Gunningan and Andy Maguire, members of DIT that will show the projects and the potential in DIT’s Sustainable Development.

  •  Tuesday 1st April 13:00-14:00 in Kevin Street Boardroom.

“Use the alternative” – a talk on sustainable alternatives for transport, with Andrew Montegue, Niall Carson, and Sharon Daly, Smarter Travel.

Among other things, planned activities include:

  • Up-cycling workshops
  • A bike-powered smoothie maker.
  • Green Graffiti Demo by Young Friends of the Earth
  • Freebies for people who use refillable water bottles instead of buying plastic water bottles.
  • A Bike to College Day, with incentives for those who cycle.
  • A Panel discussion on “How sustainable will DIT Grangegorman be?”
  • Short workshops on how to make basic repairs to your bike.
  • A talk by ex-Lord Mayor Andrew Montague on the Dublin Bike Scheme.
  • Slí na Sláinte walks, and a Green Trail around Dublin lead by Eco-UNESCO.
  • Discounted access to Fit2Go Club

During the week, Smarter Travel will also be running demos on how to use smartphone apps to plan your trip to college.  The Roadshows will be focusing on DIT Mountjoy Square, DIT Temple Bar and DIT Portland Row to help students and staff plan their new commute to Grangegorman in September.

Ciaran Cuffe, Chairperson of the DIT Green Campus Committee, said, “DIT Green Week is an opportunity to showcase all the good work that students and staff in DIT are doing in the area of sustainability.  This comes on top of the work that has been done to capture the data on the resources we use in DIT – water, waste, energy and transport.  With all this work, we’re well on our way to getting the Green Flag for DIT.”

The schedule for the Green Week Roadshow is as follows:

Monday, 31st march – DIT Bolton Street

Tuesday, 1st April – DIT Kevin Street

Wednesday, 2nd April – Aungier Street, Temple Bar and Portland Row

Thursday, 3rd April – Cathal Brugha Street and Mountjoy Square
