Gochu Foodtruck wins Student Enterprise Competition

09 April 2014:   The Bolton Trust Student Enterprise Competition has been won this year by a team of students of Culinary Arts in DIT for their business plan for Gochu Foodtruck.  Lisa Gough, Sara Vadopija and Harry Colley presented the judges with their appetising concept and business plan for a food truck enterprise with an Asian flavour.  They were presented with the first prize of €2500.

The main objective of the competition is to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among DIT students and to encourage and support a rigorous business planning approach to entrepreneurial activities. 

Now in its 21st year, the competition is the biggest student enterprise competition in any higher education institution in the country.  It is open to teams of registered DIT postgraduate and undergraduate students. Each team should have at least two but no more than six students. The students can come from any discipline and any college and multi-disciplinary, cross-college teams are particularly welcome.  In order to compete they must submit a detailed business plan for an innovative business idea, and they must present the plan to a panel of judges who put them through their paces. 


In addition to the first prize of €2500, and runner-up prizes, the annual Michael Griffin Award is made for the most innovative proposal. The award honours the late Michael Griffin Head of Department in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health and a tireless supporter of the Bolton Trust and the Student Enterprise competition.  This year the Michael Griffin Award went to a team from the College of Engineering and Built Environment, including Pedro Augusto Coelho, Kathrina Robinson,  Alyson Kearns, Craig Dow  for their business idea,  Canu Cover.

This year the enterprise competition was once again sponsored by AIB, DIT Hothouse and the Bolton Trust, and Enterprise Ireland also became involved through the ‘Think Outside the Box’ awards scheme.
