Intellectual Property Management Workshop Series - May 2014


DIT Hothouse and the Learning and Innovation Centre (LINC) in IT Blanchardstown have organised an Intellectual Property Management Workshop series in May for staff, students and industry partners of Dublin Institute of Technology, IT Blanchardstown, IT Tallaght, IADT Dun Laoghaire and The National College of Ireland.

Basic Half-Day Workshop

The basic IP Management workshop is designed for those who are involved in the development and commercialisation of technologies but have limited experience in managing Intellectual Property. The course will  provide participants with information and guidelines to help them to understand the forms of Intellectual Property relevant to their department or organisation and to develop a strategy for identifying, protecting and exploiting their intellectual assets.

The Basic workshop will cover the following topics:

  • What is Intellectual Property (IP)
  • Why is IP important
  • How do I identify IP in my company
  • How do I capture and protect my Intellectual Assets
  • What is a patent – the patent system, understanding patent documents, patent searching
  • How can I manage my IP
  • Evaluating and valuing IP
  • Exploiting IP through licensing

Advanced Full-Day Workshop

Date:        Thursday 22 May 2014

Venue:   DIT Aungier St.

The advanced IP Management workshop is designed for experienced researchers and those with a reasonable knowledge of Intellectual Property management. Attendees are expected to be familiar with their own institution's IP policy.

The Advanced workshop will cover the following topics:

  • The Patent System and Patent Specification
  • The IP Strategy – What Should I protect and How?
  • IP Pitfalls and Challenges
  • Assessing the Strength and Validity of IP
