Welcoming the gaming legends to DIT, Hugh McAtamney, Head of DITs School of Media said: "I am delighted that DIT has the pleasure of a series of workshops and lectures by two of the most influential game professionals in the world.  It is a wonderful opportunity for all of our students and especially for our first year students commencing our new programme in Game Design.

DIT is the leading education centre in Ireland for game design with programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  This September DIT is delighted to accept its first intake of students to its new BA programme in Game Design.  This innovative degree is the first of its kind in Ireland and the first to put Game Design at its core.  The BA in Game Design will focus exclusively on the art & science of creating innovative games. Our philosophy is based around the belief that the 21st century will be the 'century of the game' like the 20th century was the 'century of the TV'.

Brenda Romero, Game Designer in Residence at the University of California at Santa Cruz and the Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of video game company Loot Drop, is the longest continuously serving woman in the video game industry, having entered it in 1981, at the age of 15. Brenda Romero’s visit is organised and funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), a range of Irish education institutions and the Fulbright Commission, and was developed from an original idea of the Government's Digital Games Clustering Development Team. Speaking about the visit, HEA Chief Executive Tom Boland said: "Gaming is a particular area of interest for us in Ireland as it blends our traditions of arts and storytelling with our expertise in fast paced new technology. Ireland's education institutions have been quick to expand their provision in these areas of new and emerging technology and this visit is an opportunity to take stock of what we do well as well as what we might do better."
