Students and members of staff on the DIT Grangegorman campus are invited to ‘Campus Mindfulness Meditation’ sessions which will take place every Tuesday at lunchtime from next week.   The sessions will take place in St. Laurence, the beautifully refurbished church on the campus, and they are open to all to participate free of charge.  Sessions last just 30 minutes from 1.10 pm to 1.40 pm, and the objective is to provide an opportunity for people to learn to use all of their senses to become mindful and to bring them into the present.  According to Alan Hilliard, head of the Chaplaincy, “Mindfulness increases a person’s ability to concentrate which will have definite benefits for students as well as for colleagues in busy jobs.”

The lunchtime Mindfulness Meditation sessions are an initiative of the DIT Chaplaincy service, and have been developed through a link with The Sanctuary in Stanhope Street.  Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy – better known as Sister Stan – will come to the Grangegorman campus to launch the first session of the series on Tuesday 7th October.  Founder of the Immigrant Council of Ireland and Focus Housing, Sr. Stan was recently named as ‘Ireland’s Greatest Woman’ in the Irish Independent Readers’ Poll last month.   She is also founder of The Sanctuary, which is very close to the Grangegorman campus.  The Sanctuary was established as a place of “stillness in the world – an interspirituality centre, open to the wisdom of all the great sacred world traditions and the world of science and education.”    As part of the ‘Mindful Campus’ initiative, students and colleagues are also invited to visit The Sanctuary – see

Announcing the initiative, Fr. Hilliard said “This is an open invitation to all DIT students and staff to take a breath and come along next Tuesday, 7th October, or any Tuesday after that, from 1.10 pm to 1.40 pm!”
