Best Conference Paper Award for Dr. Tony Buckley

Posted: 9 October, 2014

Dr. Tony Buckley, Assistant Head School of Marketing, was awarded the Best Paper Award at the 11th Annual European Evaluation Society Conference. More than 750 delegates from 70 countries attended the conference which took place in Dublin in the National Convention Centre from 01 – 03 October.  Dr. Buckley’s paper evaluates the role and contribution of public venture capital (PVC) to shareholder value creation in growth-oriented indigenous firms in a smaller state.  Using Ireland as an example, his analysis found that the primary rationale for the PVC policy – ie, to close the perceived equity gap for growth-oriented firms – did not hold in the analysis period.

Dr. Buckley said he was delighted that his paper had gained the interest and attention of the conference.  “Evaluation is a fast-developing cross-cutting area of research and delegates at this conference, from 70 countries around the world, included those from the arts, sciences, public sector, development, economics education, health and social services.  In DIT we have the research and analytical skills to make a strong contribution in this field and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues to develop our contribution to research in the area.”
