DIT welcomes IFM Tanzanian Delegation

DIT President Brian Norton welcomed a delegation from the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania to DIT School of Computing last Wednesday as the two Institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a staff PhD programme. The MOU is just part of an ongoing collaboration between the School of Computing and IFM which will see five IFM staff come to DIT to undertake a specially designed PHD programme developed over the next three years.

Professor Norton, with Professor Mjema (IFM), Professor Satta (IFM) and Dr. Deirdre Lillis (Head of School of Computing).

The PHD programme is designed to upskill academic staff from IFM in research topics relevant to both Tanzania and Ireland and strengthens an ongoing relationship between the two Institutes dating back to 2008, a partnership which has seen over 100 students registered in the BSc in Computer Science degree programme at the Institute of Finance Management in Dar Es Salaam and seen 5 staff members undertake a PhD programme at DIT.  Research topics under consideration include the application of data analytics techniques to Tanzanian national priorities such as natural gas, mobile banking and health.
