DIT Photography graduate wins major French honour

Darek Fortas, who graduated with a degree in Photography from DIT in 2011,  has won a major award for his body of work entitled “Changing Rooms” (2011-2013)  The  Camera Clara Photo Prize , worth €6000,  was presented at a ceremony in the Eugene Delacroix National Museum   in Paris last week.  Fortas is currently studying for his MA in Fine Art Photography at the Royal College of Art in London.  Earlier this year he was awarded the Royal College of Art Bursary Award, and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute Grant, Warsaw.  He was also shortlisted for the MAC International 2014 Art Prize in Belfast.

The Camera Clara Photo Prize was created in 2012 by Josephine de Bodinat Moreno, President  and co-founder of the Fondation Grésigny.  The mission of the Fondation is to fund charitable projects of a cultural, social, or environmental nature.

 

The jury for the Prize was composed of ten leading professionals in the art world including Josephine de Bodinat.  The other members were Audrey Bazin (Artistic Director), Sarah Moon (Jury president and photographer), Frédérique Babin (Journalist), François Cheval (Director of the Musée Nicéphore Niépce), Diane Dufour (Director of Le Bal), Ute Kohlmann, Guillaume Piens (Artistic Director and Consultant), Michel Poivert (Professor at Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Fabien Simode (Editor-in-Chief of de L’Oeil).
