Conference examines human rights in penal policy

An important conference bringing together key actors in penal policy and practice as well as international speakers took place at Dublin Institute of Technology, Grangegorman last week. The theme of the conference was 'human rights at the heart of penal policy' and it was opened by Judge Michael Reilly, the Inspector of Prisons.

This conference examined the themes of accountability, OPCAT, staff training, experiencing human rights, restorative justice, and access to justice. The programme is available here

It was organised by Dr. Mary Rogan and supported by the Irish Research Council's 'New Foundations' Scheme, and the DIT School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences. 

Following the conference Dr. Rogan’s latest book, Prison Law(Bloomsbury Professional, 2014), was launched by the Hon. Mr Justice Gerard Hogan, judge of the Court of Appeal and Ireland's foremost authority on constitutional law.
