DIT hosts IrelandSkills National Competition

DIT is preparing to host one of the most prestigious events in the crafts calendar this week - the annual IrelandSkills National Competition.   The competition attracts the best trainee crafts persons from around the country to compete for first place in Ireland and win the coveted Department of Education and Skills, Silver Medal in their respective skill areas.  They may also have the opportunity to represent Ireland at the 2015 WorldSkills Competitions which will take place next August in São Paulo, Brazil. 


In total, ten skills competitions will take place at DIT this week, and will be held in their respective workshops.  For the first time one of those competitions will take place on the new Grangegorman campus where the programme in Visual Merchandising is now located in the Dublin School of Creative Arts.  The full list is as follows:

  • Aircraft Maintenance: DIT Aviation Technology Centre, Dublin Airport
  • Auto  Body Repair: DIT Beresford Street
  • Bricklaying:  DIT Linenhall
  • Cabinetmaking:  Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute – under auspices of DIT
  • Car Painting:  DIT Beresford Street
  • Heavy Vehicle Mechanics: DIT Beresford Street
  • Plumbing: DIT Linenhall
  • Polymechanic Automation:  DIT Bolton Street
  • Sheetmetal Work: DIT Linenhall
  • Visual Merchandising: DIT Grangegorman

Colleagues and members of the public are welcome to visit any of the locations to see the competition work at the following times:

Wednesday 10 December from 2 – 5pm, or on Thursday 11th December before 11.30 am.
