The DIT Men’s Soccer Club was represented by premier team players Gavin Moore and Rhys Gorman and Fresher Team captain Jason Bullman. DIT Soccer Development Officer John O’Carroll said  “We are delighted with the much needed support AIB have given to the men’s soccer club. We now have new AIB sponsored playing gear plus training tops for all three men’s teams which equates to approximately 50 players”.

The premier soccer team recently caused one of the biggest upsets of the year when they defeated league favorites IT Carlow after penalties in Carlow. It was the Carlow College’s first defeat since 2009 at their home ground. The premier team now faces UCD in the All-Ireland College & University Football League semi- final in February, while the B Team and Fresher Team are in cup action in the new year against IT Blanchardstown and DBS respectively.

DIT GAA Development Officer Darragh Biddlecombe  was joined at the launch by a selection of the club’s Hurlers, Camogie and Handball players.  He commented “Its great for the club and for DIT. We are out here today at our new campus in Grangegorman and you can see our new training pitch and our own natural grass pitches now starting to take shape. This new Campus with the Bank on board and with Colm Cooper about you can see there is a buzz of excitement".

Senior Hurling team Captain and Tipperary Senior Intercounty player Kieran Bergin also welcomed the sponsorship from AIB.  “It will allow us to kit out all our teams. The college sports grant covers our transport and food if we are away for the day. However the onus is on the students and the club to pay for our own kit.  With seven Hurling & Camogie teams this is costly for the club so it’s great we have this sponsorship “.

One of the first competitive matches the new kit will see will be the Senior Hurlers Walsh Cup encounter against the Dublin Senior hurlers on Tuesday January 20th in Parnell Park.
